Jorge Masvidal Criticizes Referee Herb Dean's Performance

Jorge Masvidal expressed his disapproval of veteran referee Herb Dean during a recent appearance on the Deep Waters podcast. Masvidal claimed that Dean exhibits "nervous energy" while officiating, which he suggests prevents the referee from acting decisively during bouts. The former BMF titleholder stated that he believes Dean's time as an official should be considered over.

Dean has faced increased scrutiny over the past year regarding his officiating decisions. This includes criticism surrounding the finish of a bout between Ciryl Gane and Alex Pereira, as well as fan reactions to his movement in the Octagon during other matches. Despite these criticisms from fighters and fans, there are no current reports indicating that athletic commissions are planning to remove Dean from his duties. Fighters retain the option to request different officials for their contests.
